PHP Array: Trailing Comma

In PHP, adding a comma after the last element (known as a trailing comma) is perfectly valid. This is extremely useful in multi-line definitions, as it allows you to add new lines or reorder elements freely without constantly worrying about missing or adding an extra comma in the final row.

EXAMPLE

// Notice the comma after the last element "Nectarines"
$fruits = [
    "Pineapple",
    "Peaches",
    "Cherries",
    "Strawberries",
    "Raspberries",
    "Nectarines", 
];

// PHP ignores this comma and loads the array correctly
echo "The array was successfully created with a trailing comma.\n";
echo "Number of elements: " . count($fruits) . "\n\n";

var_dump($fruits);
